Phillips Swift Creekhh Hosts Community Blood Drive

On November 3, 2012, Phillips Swift Creek hosted a “Give Back by Giving Blood Drive,” sponsored by the local chapter of the American Red Cross. Food was donated by Jersey Mike’s and Sugar Buzz Bakery and Café, both from Cary, NC.

The Phillips Swift Creek team worked hard recruiting people to donate for 8 weeks. A local hospital was depending on us to provide the blood supply needed for their hospital. Over 25 residents signed up to donate blood. The day of the event, well over 40 people showed up to donate blood. There were Phillips Swift Creek residents, local Cary residents, as well as people coming from the Raleigh and Durham areas to participate in this event.

There was a group from the Durham area that came to give blood as a way to give back and support their family members whose homes were destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. In the wake of such devastation by Hurricane Sandy, spirits were lifted at Phillips Swift Creek. This event was successful due to so many people taking an hour out of their day to simply give back to those in need.

By the end of the Blood Drive, 33 people successfully gave blood. That doesn’t include those who came out to donate but couldn’t due to unforeseen circumstances, or even those who came after the cut off time of the event. A couple residents even took time out of their busy schedules to help with registration.  Regardless of whether or not people who came out were able to donate blood, it was the thought that truly counted.

Phillips Swift was honored to host this event, and look forward to doing so again in the spring of 2013. As a result, a local hospital received the blood supply needed, and even some people who came to donate blood, also made Phillips Swift Creek their new home. That was a win-win situation!
